An aging poet finds purpose mentoring Yurlady, a talented teen, though exposing her to the poetry scene might be unwise. His own poetic pursuits led nowhere, leaving him a stereotypical obscure writer.
Instead of a predictable coming-of-age tale, this film finds its soul in the awkward, unglamorous friction between a failed writer and a sudden prodigy. It swaps heavy sentimentality for a sharp, observational look at how much a mentor actually risks by letting a student shine.
