About

After he and his first wife separate, journalist David Sheff struggles to help their teenage son, who goes from experimenting with drugs to becoming devastatingly addicted to methamphetamine.
Rather than leaning into sensationalist tropes, this portrait of addiction focuses on the quiet, agonizing exhaustion of a father trying to outrun his son's shadow. It captures the frantic, repetitive cycle of hope and heartbreak with a devastatingly intimate lens.
