The story of legendary blues performer, Bessie Smith, who rose to fame during the 1920s and '30s.
The smoky, roaring clubs of the Jazz Age provide a vibrant backdrop for a raw portrait of musical dominance and personal struggle. This soulful biopic captures the heavy cost of becoming the Empress of the Blues while navigating a world that both craved and constrained her voice.
