About
You can watch Elegy (2008) on Kanopy with a participating library card.
Cultural critic David Kepesh finds his life -- which he indicates is a state of "emancipated manhood" -- thrown into tragic disarray by Consuela Castillo, a well-mannered student who awakens a sense of sexual possessiveness in her teacher.
Melancholic shadows and quiet intimacy define this portrait of a man unravelling through a sudden, inconvenient passion. An intellectual's carefully curated detachment shatters when a student forces him to confront the heavy cost of genuine connection.
