Shirou Emiya lost his parents in a fire when he was young and was later adopted by the sorcerer Kiritsugu Emiya. Shirou is drawn into the Holy Grail War summons a female "Servant" known as Saber to protect him and obtain the Holy Grail.
Survival depends on a boy and his summoned sword-wielding spirit as they clash with legendary heroes in a secret battle for a wish-granting relic. This supernatural clash forces every combatant to decide how much of their humanity they will sacrifice to win the ultimate prize.
