About
You can stream My Neighbors the Yamadas (1999) on Max with a subscription, rent on Apple TV+, or buy on Apple TV+.
The Yamadas are a typical middle class Japanese family in urban Tokyo and this film shows us a variety of episodes of their lives. With tales that range from the humorous to the heartbreaking, we see this family cope with life's little conflicts, problems, and joys in their own way.
Soft, watercolor sketches replace traditional sharp outlines to create a gentle, sketchbook aesthetic that feels profoundly intimate. This episodic journey finds profound beauty in the mundane chaos of domestic life, proving that even the smallest family squabbles hold universal weight.
