About
You can stream Tess (1979) on Criterion Channel with a subscription.
A strong-willed peasant girl is sent by her father to the estate of some local aristocrats to capitalize on a rumour that their families are from the same line. This fateful visit commences an epic narrative of sex, class, betrayal, and revenge.
A luminous, wide-eyed vulnerability defines the central performance, turning a tragic period piece into something deeply intimate. Sweeping vistas of the English countryside frame a brutal collision between peasant survival and aristocratic cruelty.
