Unlike modern spectacles of destruction, this vintage classic relies on mounting dread and the terrifying sight of tripod machines looming over mid-century suburbs. The Martian invasion feels genuinely alien because the invaders bypass human weaponry entirely, turning the atomic age into a landscape of absolute helplessness.
